Top Ten Tuesday: Ten (actually five) Things On My Reading Wishlist

Sorry for my sudden disappearance from WordPress and lack of activity here, but I got on blogging slump after coming back from my trip to Danang city (lol, what an excuse), but now I’m completely ready to push myself back to ranting here, and so, let’s do our usual routine: memes, reviews and discussions!

So this week’s prompt from The Broke and the Bookish Top Ten Tuesday is:

Five Things On My Reading Wishlist

I never actually thought of what I want to read more in books, probably because I haven’t read much of a modern literature, and sure you can’t ask dead people to write something you’d wish were in classics, right? /forced laugh/ So let’s see if I can figure out more than… three things XD

• Alice in Wonderland retellings. Especially dark retellings

I’m definitely not sorry about wishing that whatsoever. To be honest, I’m into the Wonderland world itself, rather than the story as a whole. Of course, the characters are also my favorite thing about AiW, and that’s why I want more of its retellings, which would focus more on characters rather than on the original plot. Oh, and I’m definitely for dark kind of Alice in Wonderland retellings, the best example is American McGee’s Alice games (and also Queen of Hearts/Blood of Wonderland by Colleen Oakes).

• Other fairytale retellings

Sure we have a lot of Beauty and the Beast retellings, or Cinderella, or Red Riding Hood, but I would love to see even more. How about a Nutcracker retelling?? Or The Little Match Girl? Or Thumbelina? Or any other famous Andersen or Grimm brothers’ fairytale retellings? Okay, basically I’m craving for next thing.

• Dark fantasies with almost no possible happy endings

Do we actually have them? Did I miss something in a book world? lol I don’t know, but I’d still point this out in my reading wishlist. I mean, of course I’m happy to know that everyone lived happily ever after, but can we have some alternatives? Starting from initially a very dark world, and finishing with conflicting morals (anti-morals)? Wouldn’t that be thrilling and mind blowing?

• Books with lots of different characters worth observing their development

I mean, how mrs. Maas pulled off everyone in ACOTAR saga was absolutely amazing, even on Tamlin (hinting at some ACOWAR spoilers, ppl!). I really love observing and analyzing character developments, and the more they are present in books, the happier I am.

• Translated books from other countries (e.g. Russia, Vietnam, S.Korea)

Obviously I’m not just talking about classics. Also all the contemporary stuff, and YA books, and, of course, fantasies. There are so many Russian books I want the world to know about, but how can the world acknowledge that without having ’em books translated? It makes me sad.

What do you wish had more presence in books?

Yeah, clearly I couldn’t think of 5 more things, because I know too little of books I’ve yet to read, but I hope even this list is somewhat satisfying for you to read.
